After the most recent 'Cod War' of 1975-1976 between Iceland & England, Iceland declared an Exclusive Economic Zone beyond its traditional territorial waters. 200 nautical miles was approved worldwide by the UN convention of the Law of the Sea in 1982 and recognized internationally in 1994.
